Ready to build something that flies? SRL is always looking for new members. We welcome everyone, from first-year students to grad students, across every major. No rocketry background required, just curiosity and a willingness to jump in.

Steps to officially join SRL:

  1. Join the Slack using your colorado.edu email address.

    • Once in, you can introduce yourself in any channels that interest you. Team Leads are there to help you get oriented, so don't hesitate to reach out.

  2. Fill out the SRL Participation Waiver and save it as a PDF. You’ll submit this in step 6.

  3. Complete the EHS training on proper hazardous waste handling and disposal. It's a short PowerPoint and quiz (15–30 minutes). Save your completion confirmation to submit in step 6.

  4. Join SRL on Campus Groups.

  5. Create an account on our Notion workspace.

  6. Fill out the Membership form in Notion and submit your EHS certification and waiver there.

  7. Reach out to the lead of the team you're interested in to get involved.

  8. Join us during our New Member Meeting to officially kick things off.

FAQs

When can I join SRL?

Anytime — we accept new members year-round. That said, we recommend joining during our Fall or Spring recruitment campaigns at the start of each semester, when we run orientation sessions and training workshops to help new members ramp up together.

Do I need to be an engineering major?

No. We're looking for talented people across all disciplines; building rockets is only part of what we do.

Do I need prior rocketry experience?

Not at all. Whether you're a complete beginner or already have some background, there's a place for you on the team, and we'll help you grow from there.

What's the time commitment?

Expect 3–10 hours a week, depending on your team. General team meetings happen monthly, with team-specific meetings once or twice a week. Beyond that, how much you take on is up to you.

I've joined the club... now what?

Head to any subteam's Slack channel and introduce yourself. You can also reach out to anyone in Leadership to help you get oriented and plugged into current projects. From there, keep an eye out for team meetings and workshops so you can start getting hands-on. The best way to ramp up quickly is to show up, ask questions, and dive into whatever your team is working on.

Does membership cost anything?

No, our team operates on the generosity of the university and our sponsors.
